Discover Moghul Palace

Tucked away at 4 Norton Rd, Pelsall, Walsall WS3 4AY, United Kingdom, Moghul Palace is the kind of Indian restaurant you hear about through word of mouth long before you see it on a map. I first visited on a rainy Friday evening after a local friend insisted it served the best curry in the area. To be honest, I’ve tried dozens of Indian restaurants across the West Midlands, and I’ve learned to judge a place within minutes-by the aroma when you walk in, the warmth of the greeting, and the balance of spices in the first bite. This spot immediately felt promising.

The dining room is relaxed and welcoming, with soft lighting and neatly arranged tables that make it suitable for both casual dinners and small celebrations. The staff greet regulars by name, which tells you a lot about how deeply rooted the restaurant is in the Pelsall community. Online reviews often highlight the friendly service, and after several visits myself, I can confirm that attentiveness here isn’t forced-it’s genuine.

The menu is broad without feeling overwhelming. You’ll find all the Indian cuisine classics-chicken tikka masala, lamb bhuna, prawn jalfrezi-but what stands out is the consistency. During one visit, I ordered a garlic chilli chicken that balanced heat and sweetness perfectly. Capsicum, onions, and fresh coriander added texture, while the sauce had that slow-cooked depth you only get when chefs understand spice layering. According to the Food Standards Agency’s public hygiene rating system, transparency and proper kitchen practices are key markers of quality in UK restaurants. Establishments that maintain high ratings often show better consistency and food safety standards, and that attention to detail is evident here in both flavour and presentation.

One thing I always pay attention to is how a restaurant handles its tandoor dishes. The tandoori mixed grill arrived sizzling, with chicken tikka, seekh kebab, and lamb chops cooked evenly-charred at the edges yet juicy inside. Achieving that requires precise temperature control inside the clay oven, typically reaching up to 480°C. It’s not easy to master, but when done correctly, it seals in moisture while creating that smoky exterior people love. The naan bread, brushed lightly with butter and sprinkled with fresh garlic, was soft and slightly crisp around the edges, just as it should be.

Over time, I’ve noticed that their portions are generous without being excessive. It’s the kind of place where sharing starters makes sense. On one occasion, a group of us sampled onion bhajis, samosas, and a platter of poppadoms with mint yoghurt and mango chutney. The chutneys tasted freshly prepared rather than overly processed, which aligns with what many culinary experts, including chefs featured by the UK’s Guild of Food Writers, emphasize: freshness and balance are what elevate traditional dishes beyond the ordinary.

Another strong point is how they accommodate dietary preferences. Vegetarian options are plentiful, from saag paneer to chana masala, and the staff are clear about spice levels and ingredients. Clear communication builds trust, especially for diners with allergies or specific requirements. While menus can change seasonally, the core offerings remain reliable, and takeaway service runs smoothly for those evenings when dining in isn’t possible.

Location-wise, being situated in Pelsall makes it convenient for locals in Walsall and nearby areas. Parking is generally manageable along Norton Road, though weekends can get busy. That popularity speaks volumes. A restaurant doesn’t build a steady stream of returning customers without doing something right.

From my experience, what keeps people coming back isn’t just the curry-it’s the overall reliability. The flavours are layered, the service feels personal, and the setting strikes a comfortable balance between traditional and modern. In a region filled with Indian eateries, standing out requires more than a long menu. It demands skill in the kitchen, attention to hygiene and quality standards, and a genuine connection with the community. This place delivers on those fronts consistently, which is why it continues to earn strong local reviews and loyal diners year after year.

  • To be fair it was a very quiet Wednesday evening when we visited for the first time. We had high expectations based on what we had seen on social media. The food was very good indeed. The long wait wasn't. We asked for coke to drink and were told that they had a cola alternative. It was horrible. I wouldn't recommend it. So, great food, slow service and don't have the cola alternative. Oh, and it's cash only.

  • Every time I go to Moghul Palace I feel welcome. The team recognise me and my partner. Everyone is always really friendly and polite. I mostly go with my partner but sometimes with friends and it’s the same service. The food is fresh, beautifully presented and so yummy! The toilets are always so clean, everywhere is really neat and fresh. We always bring our own drinks as we travel from Lichfield…that’s how lovely it is! :) Our last visit which was last Friday, Afsar and the team were brilliant as usual.

  • Decor and design sets the mood, and the team and food goes above and beyond. Arrived for our 6pm booking, and table was ready and already off to a busy start in the restaurant. We ordered poppadoms and were brought extra over due to a delay in the kitchen but by 6.30 had our main meals, very thoughtful for a small delay. Food was exquisite. Poppadoms were probably the nicest I've ever had, and all of our meals were fresh, tender, well seasoned and so tasty. H and everyone one else we encountered were so lovely. Best restaurant cuisine I've enjoyed in a long while - can't find a fault - thank you all
